Import an Entry

Contentstack allows you to import the data of existing entries. You can either create a new entry and import content, or you can edit an entry and replace the existing content by importing content.

Note: Before importing the content of an entry, ensure that you’ve first exported it. Also, ensure that the content type’s schema of the exported entry matches with the schema of the content type to which you are going to import the entry.

To import content for a new entry, log in to your Contentstack account, and perform the following steps:

  1. Go to the new entry page or an existing entry page, and click on the Import link at the bottom of the page.
  2. Select the appropriate JSON file and click Import.

While importing, ensure that you have chosen the correct locale to import the file as a localized entry.

Warning: The content of the existing entry will be replaced with the new content available in the JSON file. Also, the import event will fail if the file you import contains references to other entries or assets outside the stack or is formatted incorrectly.

Example

Given below are the sample JSON files for a “Blog” content type and an entry of this content type. You can first import the content type and then import the entry.
