Create a Term

Terms serve as the primary classification elements within a taxonomy, allowing you to establish hierarchical structures and incorporate them into entries.

To create a term, log in to your Contentstack account, and perform the following steps:

  1. Go to your stack where you want to create a term, navigate to the “Settings” icon (press “S”) on the left navigation panel, and select Taxonomy.
  2. Create a new taxonomy or select an existing taxonomy in which you want to create terms.
  3. Click the + New Term button.
  4. Enter the Name for the term. The Unique ID will be auto-generated and can be edited until it's saved.

Note: Once saved, you cannot change the UID.

  5. Click the Save button to save the term within your taxonomy.
  6. To add another term at the parent level, click the Create a Sibling Term button and provide the details for the second term.
  7. To create nested terms within the parent term, click the Create a Child Term button and input the details for the child term.
  8. Alternatively, you can create terms at the sibling and child levels by hovering over the term and selecting either the Add a Sibling Term or Add a Child Term icon.
