# [Publish Content] - Schedule Publish/Unpublish Assets

This page explains how to publish or unpublish an existing asset either immediately or by scheduling it for a later date/time, including environment/language selection and time zone (DST) behavior. It is intended for content managers and editors who need to control when assets go live or are removed.

## Schedule Publish/Unpublish Assets

To publish/unpublish an existing asset, edit the asset, and click the **Publish** / **Unpublish** link. Select the environment(s) and language(s) you wish to publish/unpublish the asset to/from.

The **Publish **/ **Unpublish **option that appears on the **Publish Asset** and the **Unpublish Asset** dialog boxes allow you to publish or unpublish an asset either immediately or schedule it by means of the **Now** and **Later** sub-options, respectively.

The **Now** option publishes/unpublishes an asset immediately, and the **Later** option allows you to publish/unpublish an asset at a later date/time. When you select this sub-option, you will be asked to select the date and time of publishing. On clicking this textbox, you will be prompted to enter the exact date, time (hour-min), and the time zone.

**Note:** When scheduling an asset publish/unpublish, the publishing/unpublishing date cannot extend beyond 12 months.

On selecting a time zone that follows [daylight saving time (DST)](/docs/content-managers/publish-content/daylight-saving-time-in-contentstack), Contentstack will display a help text at the bottom of the textbox that highlights the effective publishing date, time, and time zone along with DST adjustments.

**Note:** The DST time difference is one hour.

The effective publishing date specifies the publishing date in local time for the user publishing the entry.

**Note:** Scheduled publishing/unpublishing is also available in [Releases](/docs/content-managers/create-and-manage-releases/deploy-a-release). This feature allows content managers to add multiple assets to Releases and then schedule them to be deployed in a future timeline.

## Common questions

**Q: Can I publish/unpublish an asset immediately without scheduling it?**  
A: Yes, use the **Now** sub-option in the **Publish Asset** or **Unpublish Asset** dialog boxes.

**Q: How far in advance can I schedule an asset to publish or unpublish?**  
A: The publishing/unpublishing date cannot extend beyond 12 months.

**Q: What happens if I select a time zone that follows daylight saving time (DST)?**  
A: Contentstack displays help text highlighting the effective publishing date, time, and time zone along with DST adjustments.

**Q: Is scheduled publishing/unpublishing available outside of the asset publish/unpublish dialog?**  
A: Yes, it is also available in **Releases**, where you can add multiple assets and schedule them to be deployed in a future timeline.
