# [Use Workflows] - Entry Default Workflow Stage

This page explains what the entry default workflow stage is, what happens when you create and save a new entry, and how assignments and due dates behave for the first workflow stage. It is intended for content managers working with entries and workflows, and should be used when you need to understand or manage the initial workflow state of an entry.

## Entry Default Workflow Stage

**Note**: Before you get to know what the default workflow stage means, you should know the basics of [workflows](/docs/developers/set-up-workflows-and-publish-rules/about-workflows), its [stages, ](/docs/developers/set-up-workflows-and-publish-rules/about-workflow-stages)and [tasks](/docs/developers/set-up-workflows-and-publish-rules/about-workflow-tasks).

When you [create a new entry](/docs/content-managers/working-with-entries/create-an-entry) and save it, the entry is, by default, assigned the first stage of your [workflow](/docs/developers/set-up-workflows-and-publish-rules/about-workflows).

Initially, no [user](/docs/developers/invite-users-and-assign-roles/about-stack-users)(s) and/or [role](/docs/developers/invite-users-and-assign-roles/about-stack-roles)(s) are assigned to the first stage of the Workflow as seen in the **Assigned To** section. You can assign user(s) and/or role(s) as per your need.

Also, the due date is not set for this [workflow stage](/docs/developers/set-up-workflows-and-publish-rules/about-workflow-stages). So, you can assign a due date to the workflow stage as per your requirement.
